Subtly Cool: Elevated Minimalism

I wouldn't consider myself a minimalist or a maximalist; I just like what I like. Some days I wear monochromatic outfits, and some days I throw on 5 chunky rings and pink tennis shoes. I always appreciate balance within fashion, and recently I have found a ton of inspiration for staple pieces that have a bit of flair.

My favorite pieces recently have been jeans with something extra on them. For example, jeans with shoestrings laced up at the top instead of buttons. Jeans with a different fabric or patchwork along the side hems. Jeans with studs or fringe. I find all of these additions to be so unique and effortlessly cool. Casual rips are out, texture is  in!

Another trend I love is tops that show off your back. The key with these pieces is to have a standard, almost modest front, maybe with a high neckline or slight covered shoulders. A lot of tops right now, especially ones made for nights out, have a simple front but a fun element of surprise in the back. This can also be incorporated (and oftentimes is) onto dresses for special events, girls nights, or date nights. This trend will forever be classy to me, nothing is sexier than a low back or no back!

Finally, a trend that will never leave my closet is lace. Lace is an effortless and timeless staple that can go with any fabric, texture, and pattern and is also one of the easiest layering tools to use. It can be cohesive with any part of your wardrobe! For example, it can peek out of tops of boots, underneath a shirt as a lace bra, under a sweater for some added texture, and of course, on a pair of jeans! Using fabrics and textures such as this, is the simplest way to make any bland outfit elevated.
