According to Vocabulary.com, the meaning of coquette is a flirt, a girl or woman who knows how to flatter and manipulate men with her charms in order to get what she wants. This equates in fashion language to ruffles, paisley, tiny flower details, bows, whites, baby pinks, blues and greens.

Coquette aesthetic is taking off this spring and summer of 2023. If you feel like you want to hop on the bandwagon, there are a few starting places to shift your wardrobe:

  1. Flower choker

When I say flower, I’m not meaning the daisy chokers that were a staple in every VSCO girl’s outfit. I’m talking about the big, statement, ruffly flower chokers. It may sound misleading, so here’s a photo to convince you:

2. ANYTHING lace

Lace has many meanings; it once meant prestige in the victorian era, then in the mid-90s it shifted to having a much more seductive meaning. Here, lace is taking on a different definition and symbolizes hyper-femininity. Hyper femininity means appearing passive, naive, soft, flirtatious and graceful. It can be worn in many ways, too. Here are some examples of lace in loungewear and nightwear:

3. RUFFLES

Ruffles in any fashion are going to be in this spring and summer. Whether it be on a small pair of bloomers or big statement ruffles on a blouse– BRING THEM ON!
