Whether you know Mamdami from popular TikTok reels of him visiting small businesses throughout New York City or his interviews regarding equality for all and the importance of men being feminists, Mamdami has been the talk across social media since he won the mayoral election.

Mamdami has led his campaign by showing the people of NYC how much he truly cares about them, such as a visit to an LGBTQ+ club at 3 a.m. to celebrate his win with diversity.

Mamdami’s wife, Rama Duwaji, is an animator and illustrator in the New York area. Rama is an artist, so what better than wearing a mix of New York City designers and Zeid Hijazi, a Palestinian designer, who designed the black laser-cut top she wore to her husband's election-night victory party. This artist says his designs are inspired by “Arab subcultures, goths, ancient civilizations, metaphysics and more.” Ulla Johnson was another designer she wore, a black velvet and lace midi skirt that shows exactly what the heart of New York City is about: diversity, romance, new beginnings, adventure and people coming together from all over the world.

It’s not just Rama who has style; Mamdami also wears suits and attire like Khadi Kurtas to pull together his own individualistic style that mixes his culture, politics and personal tastes, showing that you can still be fashionable while working in politics. Mamdami is focusing his priorities on helping small business owners in New York to make it more affordable. Whether it’s your favorite pizza place in Brooklyn or that cute coffee shop on the corner in Greenwich Village, Mamdami’s goal is to make it easier for smaller businesses to grow and help the middle class by freezing rent prices from skyrocketing.

Even if you are not keeping up with recent politics, Mamdami has used platforms like Instagram to reach younger generations that may feel overwhelmed by the news. The concept of “Fashion and Politics” is about how you show up and represent not just yourself but the people you are representing as well. That’s why these movements are so important to Mamdami, every interview he does and every time he goes outside to meet with taxi drivers, restaurant employees or other politicians, he’s showing up to represent everyone.
