A good summer read is always the best part of a beach day or slow summer morning. Below is a list of recommendations to get your summer reading at its peak!
First, while anything by Emily Henry is a great summer option, none of her books encaptured me like “Happy Place” did. “Happy Place” follows a separated couple, Harriet and Wyn, as they attempt to go on vacation with their closest friends, who are under the impression they are still together. The book is hilarious but will also pull at your heartstrings–you will never want to leave the comfort of their Maine Cottage.
Next, while anything by Taylor Jenkins Reid is always a great option, “Carrie Soto Is Back” is my recommendation. “Carrie Soto is Back” centers on Carrie Soto’s return to tennis to reclaim her record as the greatest female tennis player. Soto is written to be unlikeable, but this only makes her energy more iconic.
And if you want something with less romance, “The Mutual Friend” by Carter Bays is for you. “The Mutual Friend” follows a seemingly unconnected group of people around New York City for the summer. However, throughout the book, the group becomes more connected and leaves you wondering who the narrator really is. “The Mutual Friend” might take you a second to get into it, but once you are hooked, you will not want to put it down. The plot twists will leave you surprised, and the themes are more relevant than ever.
Finally, no summer book list is complete without “The Summer of Broken Rules” by K. L. Walther. “The Summer of Broken Rules” is centered around Meredith, who is back at Martha’s Vineyard for the first time following her sister's death. Walther will have you hooked and laughing as Meredith learns to live without her sister and finds new relationships, all while playing the ultimate game of water gun assassin.
