Foreign To Familiar: Oxford, Ohio

Four years ago, I had no idea Oxford, Ohio existed. It was the beginning of my senior year of high school and I was just starting to apply to colleges. As I narrowed down my list of schools, I made the trip from Virginia to Oxford for the first time for a visit. Little did I know that the seemingly endless brick walkways of campus and high street would be the backdrop for my time in college.
Now when I walk around Oxford, it’s no longer a foreign place. Instead, it’s a place that reminds me of growth, friendship, and evolution. In many cases, it’s not the buildings or backdrops themselves that make Oxford such a special place to me. It’s the memories I made in each spot.
From my freshman year dorm, to Uptown, our campus holds such a special place in my heart. I’ve made so many mistakes, learned so many lessons, and met so many people. I’ve had so many firsts, and even some lasts. I’ve failed countless times, but I've also had so many successes.
I am so lucky to live somewhere that fosters this growth. Whether you are just starting your four years as a student at Miami, or are visiting as a parent or alumni, Oxford offers a picturesque backdrop for creating meaningful connections and impactful memories. Being able to walk uptown or across campus and see how far you have come is truly such a special feeling, and one I am so grateful for.
I will always cherish this town and each of the memories I have made during my time here. Walking around Oxford will forever remind me of how far I have come and all of the experiences I have been fortunate enough to have.
