On March 3, 2023, Amazon Prime Video debuted the first three episodes of the television adaptation of author Taylor Jenkins Reid’s “Daisy Jones and the Six,” and it is already the number one show in the US on Amazon Prime Video’s rankings. Keeping the same premise, the show follows a fictional band in the style of a documentary that comments on their rise to stardom and their ultimate downfall in the 1970s.

Reid’s novel was a massive success when it hit shelves in 2019. The novel was named Best Historical Fiction in the Goodreads Choice Awards in 2019, and it is no surprise since the novel truly feels like a real biography. Reid creates a close-knit group of characters that face drama, backlash and critiques, and describes the music industry throughout the decades as if the reader is living through it. Its title character, Daisy Jones, and heartthrob lead male vocalist Billy Dunne are brought to life through the dialogue and exclusive songs Reid writes for the book.

The television adaptation has so far lived up to its expectations. While only three episodes have been released of the scheduled 10-episode series, it already has captivated audiences not just by the stunning performances of the cast members, but also because of the costume design, aesthetic and most importantly, the music.

The soundtrack to the show includes both originally composed songs and featured songs from popular bands in the '70s like Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones. Many of the original songs include lyrics written by Reid, and fans of the book will be excited to see these lyrics come to life on screen.

Actress Riley Keough is the perfect embodiment of the carefree icon Daisy Jones. Her voice is powerful and captivating, and she exudes confidence in every scene. It is also worth mentioning the fashion of her character, as it perfectly captures the essence of the 1970s with a bohemian look. Jones is seen in bell-bottom jeans, flowy tops and platform boots.

“Daisy Jones and the Six” is looking to be one of the best shows of 2023. It is hard to believe “Daisy Jones and the Six” is not a real band, but the story, music and fashion are things you will not want to miss.
